People have different opinions about whether we depend more or less on others now. In my opinion, modern life forces us to be more independent than before.

   There are two main reasons why we rely more on each other now. First of all, life is more complex and difficult, especially because of the dramatic increase in the cost of living. For example, young people often depend on their parents for help when they buy a house. Property prices are higher than ever, and without help, many people could not pay a deposit or mortgage. Second, people seem more ambitious now, and they want better quality of family life. This means that parents usually need full-time jobs, and they rely on support from grandparents and nannies to take care of their children.

   However, I agree with those who believe that people are more independent now. In most countries, families are becoming smaller and more dispersed, which means that people can not rely on their relatives as they used to. We also have more freedom to travel and live away from home. For example, many students choose to study abroad rather than go to a local university, which makes them more independent when they are learning to live alone. Another factor of this increasing independence is technology, which enables us to work alone, from anywhere in the world.

   In conclusion, although there are some reasons to believe that people depend more on each other now, my personal view is that we are more independent than ever
