并列式定语从句

impurity：impurities are substances that are present in a small quantities in anther substance and make it dirty or of an unacceptable quality.

并列式定语从句中同主语的状况可否省略做代词代替主语的引导词？

譬如

Mr. Smith,whohas a good command of French and Englishbutwhodoesn’t know Chinese, finds it difficult to study Chinese literature.

镜像的问题还有代词代宾语的等代指同一成分的。

一个主语后接二个谓语动词，假如二个动作之间关系紧密（比如第一个动作致使第二个动作的发生），则不适合分为二个分句。假如二个谓语动作之间关系松散，则可视为是并列句省略了第二个主语，可以改为并列句。

你引用的词典例句中，make it dirty的首要条件是某种物质存在于另一种物质中，没这个首要条件，make it就不成立了。所以这个句子中就不适合改为并列的定语从句。

你给出的例句中，but表示转折，二个谓语动作关系松散。即便省略第一个定语，单用第二个定语从句，句子也成立。所以用并列谓语，或并列定语从句都是可以的。
